En-Tech Vibe NVE-100 ear-phone

The latest technology has seen the earphones develop into gadgets that so efficient that they block out all external noises. In one way this is a good thing, because it ensures that you get to hear clear, crisp sounds.

On the other hand, it poses a danger, because one tends to get so engrossed in the music that you may not hear the car honking while you cross the road. The En-Tech Vibe NVE-100 ear-phone has this advantage; it clips onto the ear and allows you to hear ambient noises as well. It is a safer option for those who commute on foot or use public transport. Since it clips on externally like an earring, it does not damage your ear drums and delivers the sound directly to the tympanic membrane in the auricle of the user. It charges via USB and half an hour of charging results in 6 hours of playback...according to newlaunches

Nokia 6 or 8-Megapixel Imaging Slider rumors

The gripe on a new Nokia that looks something on the lines of Nokia 7380 "lipstick", Nokia N92 TV phone or Nokia N93 Camcorder/imaging phone. The new slider is coming out in the upcoming Nokia N-Series imaging phones. Apparently it will feature rotate-able camera, a retractable flash assembly, which allows to hide/expose the phone flash within the body of the device. Unlike the other Nokia patent applications, the pictures represent rather detailed drawing of the phone. Thus, kind of putting a stamp of authentication to the phone. However it's not clear whether it's a 6 or 8 MP cam.SOURCE

Vectrix Electric Superbike

The Vectrix Electric Superbike was introduced at the Milan motorcycle show recently. The bike boasts of a top speed of around 125mph, a range of around 70 miles, plus it can cover quarter mile in around 12 seconds.

Though we are low on specs but if we go by the way their maxi-scooter runs then it will include the two-way throttle-activated regenerative braking system. The battery's a 240v, 7.5KWh unit but it's unclear whether Vectrix has moved past NiMH onto the more effective but less well-known lithium-polymer units that are leading the development charge in terms of power and range. Thanks to Robrady design, the bike looks amazing, the subframe and seat suspended in midair over the beefy "tank" area, and the large electric motor sitting in plain view on the rear hub. The bike weighs in at 204kg.

Vectrix will manufacture the Electric Superbike only if they receive 500 deposits. The USA debut is scheduled for the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2008.Source

Samsung U600 Black Gold Limited Edition

Old wine in new bottle always works. And that’s exactly the thumb of rule for Samsung has followed with the Samsung U600 Black Gold limited edition.

The New Samsung U600 hit the market, in first quarter of this year. But to revive its charisma, it has been given a luxurious facelift by adding a hint of gold to the all black phone. Hence along with the honor of being the thinnest of the phones in Samsung’s Ultra Edition II line-up, you can now go for the slimmest and the most attractive cell phone, the Samsung U600 Black Gold limited edition. However for those looking for more enhanced techy features need to sit down as other then the looks, nothing else has been touched upon.

Specs:

The Samsung U600 is part of the amazing collage of slim phones by the company. In a league which includes the U700 and the U300 we find the U600, a slider with a 3.2 megapixel camera. This ones just 10.9 mm in thickness and has a 2.2” LCD display screen. It supports file formats like MP3, ACC, eAAC+ and WMA. It also has 60MB of memory and if that shall prove less for you (most likely it will) then you can use the microSD slot to increase your storage. With the EDGE, GPRS Class 10 and GSM quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz support, the U600 is most probably the first among the Ultra Slim, Ultra Stylish phones to hit the US.

Ferrari FXX Evoluzione

The latest FXX Evoluzione from Ferrari. The Italian auto brand has unveiled its stunning FXX Evoluzione, which is basically the "further evolution of the FXX program that places 'client test drivers' behind the wheel of developmental test beds to try out new equipment for Ferrari." Schumacher himself has unveiedl the car, having sporadically participated in the program over the past two years. Taking its first steps at Ferrari World Finals at Italy's Mugello racetrack, a V12 engine raised its output to 860 HP and 9,500 rpm. Plus the shift times are down to a lightning-fast 60 milliseconds. A real beast in disguise!

All in all it means that the FXX Evoluzione can now lap the company's private Fiorano test track two seconds faster than its predecessor at 1 min 16 sec. The kit can be retrofitted to any of the 20 FXXs that took place in the program until now, and includes participation in a renewed program that will take these most extreme machines to two events each in North America, Europe and Asia each year over the next two years. Autoblog has rightly put “Money may not be able to buy youhappiness, but it can buy you a seat as a Ferrari test driver”...More

Graphical Passwords

Newcastle University researchers are developing Graphical Password using pictures that will also be easier for people with language difficulties such as dyslexia. Hard to remember passwords that will be use as a artwork such combinations of alphanumeric characters is not a problem anymore. The technology is similar to fingerprinting or retina scanning. Graphical passwords are far harder, or even impossible, for machines to hack using brute-force attacks. The more complex your drawing of an object is, the more secure your device is. The system is called Background Draw a Secret, and it could hit smartphones fairly soon with add-on software.

The computer remembers the number of "pen" strokes used, where the image was started and the order in which they were made. Dr Jeff Yan, a computer science lecturer, and PhD student Paul Dunphy have developed emerging Draw a Secret (DAS) technology and applied it to a background image. The improved software is known as BDAS - Background Draw a Secret, which makes it easier for the user to remember where to start drawing on the screen. Dr Yan said: "Many people find it difficult to remember a password so choose words that are easy to remember and therefore more susceptible to hackers. Most of us have forgotten a pin number or a password at least once, that main reason was, it is intended to make them so easy to guess. However, the human mind has a much greater capacity for remembering images, and it's certainly true that a picture is worth a thousand words in this instance." Technorati Profile

Beating the iPhone with Top 5 Reasons Series 60 Touch Interface

Here comes the first credible threat to the iPhone, the world's largest mobile phone maker Nokia has expanded the ever popular Series 60 Touch User Interface to include touch user interface and sensor technologies. Here are 5 reasons we feel the updated Series 60 will beat the iPhone.

No 5 - The S60 smartphone software offers licensees the opportunity to develop devices with a variety of input methods, whether it is a touch screen with a traditional keypad, touch screen with a qwerty keyboard or touch screen alone, supporting both finger or stylus optimized input, in addition to the range of access options that already exist today. The iPhone is limited to finger input only.

No 4 - S60 Touch interface supports Tactile feedback which is more like force feedback. So when the user taps or touches the screen there is a physical pulse and feedback, this will be great for gaming. The iPhone lacks this feature.

No 3 - S60 Touch will be the first mobile software platform to offer Web Browser integrated with Flash Video which allows people to view on the go Flash-enabled Web sites. The iPhone has support for YouTube via a separate application but the inbuilt Safari browser lacks Flash support.

No 2 - The S60 interface is licensed to multiple companies (Samsung, Panasonic and Siemens) and is not only limited to Nokia. This gives the user a wider choice of handsets.

No 1 - Series 60 is the most widely used smartphone OS with 100 million S60 devices cumulatively shipped by April 2007. Nokia developer forum has thousands of registered developers and hundreds of companies making applications for the S60 interface. Development kit for the S60 Touch will ship with UI Accelerator toolkit to allow device manufacturers to develop rapidly and easily impressive graphical effects and new types of interactions with the light, proximity and distance sensors. Currently there are tons of applications and games available for the S60 interface. The iPhone on the other hand has no SDK kit and only a couple of applications.

US 3G Costs Nokia N95 a Mere Hour of Battery Life

When you go from the old Nokia N95 to the new US-spec 3G HSDPA version, you lose about an hour of browsing life. That's due to the larger battery, and the folks at WirelessInfo.com were actually expecting even more of a drain, so this is good news. More:

The N95-3 has a 1200mAh battery, which is significantly bigger than the 950mAh battery in the older, non-3G N95. So the 3G battery is definitely affecting the battery life, but the bigger battery is doing a lot to compensate for that.

While the 3G drain is much stronger than EDGE, this implies that there might be even better EDGE performance than on the original. WirelessInfo.com says they may check into this for us.

The bottom line is this:

The new version of the N95 was able to keep browsing over a 3G network for 6 hours 12 minutes. Under exactly the same conditions, the old N95 (using an EDGE connection) was able to keep on browsin' for 7 hours 15 minutes...Read More

Blu-Ray

Blu-ray Disc (also called BD) is a high-density optical disc format for the storage of digital information, including high-definition video.

The name Blu-ray Disc is based from the blue-violet laser used to read and write this type of disc. Because of its shorter wavelength (405 nm),significantly more data can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on the DVD format, which uses a red (650 nm) laser. A single layer Blu-ray Disc can store 25 GB, over 5 times the size of a single layer DVD at 4.7 GB. A dual layer Blu-ray Disc can store 50 GB, almost 6 times the size of a dual layer DVD at 8.5 GB.Blu-ray Disc is currently in a formal war with rival format HD DVD.

Recording 18 hours of 1080p on a single disc is pretty serious stuff, and Panasonic Blu-ray recorders launched at CEATEC Japan do this. They do this via a digital TV tuner, and MPEG 4 compression, and support for 50GB dual layer discs you'd see on a PC recorder, but never before on a home theater box. The players also have HDDs in them, up to $2600 for a 1TB model (There are 5 other lesser models, too, and the phrase product spam (comes to mind). The terrabyte drive can do 381 hours of recording, but using that lowest setting for 1080p seems perverse and wrong. Transferring from HDD to disc can be done at 4x. Japan only, for now, and given the high-endness of this setup and American HDMI DRM, maybe forever. [PC World]

Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360 Console Now Available

When Microsoft held its E3 press conference in June, the only major announcement related to Xbox 360 hardware was the reveal of a Halo Special Edition Console. Although Halo 3 itself won’t be hitting shelves until next week, gamers looking to dial up their Halo-fever can now pick up the Special Edition console from their local electronics and games retailer.

At the time of announcement, Microsoft focused mainly on the Halo 3 console’s authentic Spartan green and gold finish and comes with matching Xbox 360 Wireless Controller,20GB Hard Drive, Headset, Play & Charge Kit, Halo 3 Gamer Pics and Theme available via Xbox Live download. DailyTech, however, saw the HDME output feature of the new console as a sign of things to come. Less than a month later, HDMI ports were spotted on Xbox 360 20 GB Premium consoles.

Gamers wanting the HDMI output feature but not interested in spending the extra money for an Xbox 360 Elite can be assured of getting such a console by purchasing the Halo Special Edition. The Halo console retails for $399, while the regular Premium console is $349. For a short period, Best Buy was offering $349 Premium consoles with guaranteed HDMI output.

The special green console is not the only Halo promo item on Microsoft’s list. Microsoft has designed both a black and brown Halo edition Zunes preloaded with appropriately themed soundtracks and media. In June, retailer GameStop revealed special Halo 3 – Themed Xbox 360 controllers featuring Todd McFarlane artwork and Spartan green wireless headset.

Halo 3 launches on September 25 in what could be the biggest game launch in history. (Source: Microsoft)

Portable DVD Player with Sexy-Flexy Display Transforms Into Mini-Theater

Designer Yeon-shin Seung says he designs to use Sony's full-color flexible organic electroluminescent display on this device because of the screen's thin and lightweight form factor. Here's hoping that he doesn't use the ancient DVD format is a playback medium, eschewing that old fossil for a dual-format Blu-ray and HD DVD player.

Here's a wild-ass looking portable DVD player (PDP) that reminds us a lot of that player we showed you last month that looks like a butterfly knife. This concept takes that design a few years into the future, looking like it's about the size and unpocketable shape of that crazy iPhone clone Intel was flaunting the other day. Like a transformer, it twists around and gives you a turntable on which to spin the DVD while you unravel its sexy flexible OLED screen to feast your eyes.

Hey, this looks like it would be a perfect companion on a transpacific flight, that is, if the batteries can hold out for at least three movies' worth. But wait a second. By the time this actually comes to market, if ever, you'll be able to stream Internet video from your airplane seat and everywhere else, so physical media will be irrelevant. Oh well, timing is everything. (Source: www.gizmodo.com)

ReplayTV Personal HD Rolled Out, Has iPod and iPhone Support

A software that makes a product unique, giving you the ability to convert those videos you record on your PC to formats that will play back on Apple TV or any of the video-enabled iPod/iPhone products.

Replay TV rolled out its Personal HD today, a USB tuner dongle that it is confirmed that it is a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950 modified especially for ReplayTV. To take advantage of its multiple tuner capability, though, you'll have to add another tuner to your PC to complement the one inside this USB dongle. Also keep in mind that its tuner snags HDTV signals over-the-air, so if you don't have good TV broadcast reception in your area, the Replay TV Personal HD is not going to do you much good.
